Sunshine Blogger Award!

I’ve been nominated for my first Sunshine Blogger Award! A massive thank you to The Gaming Diaries for the nomination. She’s an absolutely fantastic blogger, who not only writes about the games she’s currently playing but also provides insightful pieces on various topics within the sphere of gaming, such as this brilliantly-researched post on the media’s obsession with gaming addiction. Again, massive thanks!

So, onto answering some questions!

Name 5 things that make you happy.

Finding time to game!

Playing peekaboo with my daughter

Landing an Excellent throw on Pokemon Go

Catching touchdowns

The Late Show with Steven Colbert

Favourite video game character?

Has to be Zeratul from the Starcraft universe. Would love to go into the reasons why but it might spoil a certain upcoming collaboration post!

What was the last game you played?

Not including games that will be reviewed in the near future…Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. Abe is a legend.

If you could experience one game again for the first time, what game would you choose?

Man, tough question. I have a ton of games I’d love to play with fresh eyes, but I think I’d have to go with Mass Effect. Its massive scope and grand storyline blew me away when I first played it.

Are there any games that you wish had got a sequel?

Up until recently I’d have said Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us, but as that’s FINALLY getting a sequel at some point next year…going to go with Kathy Rain. Granted I only played (and reviewed) it recently, but it came out in 2016 and it definitely left itself open to a sequel.

Favourite way to play: PC or console?

Well, as I have zero latest-gen consoles….PC.

Home console or handheld (or in the case of a switch – docked or handheld)?

I loved me some handheld consoles back in the day. I’m pretty sure I still have a GameBoy Advance kicking around the place somewhere. If I were to get a switch I would take that thing everywhere with me, who wouldn’t want to to play Mario Kart on the bus??

If you could have a video game character as a sidekick who would you choose?

Now the word ‘sidekick’ could have a few different meanings, but I’m taking it in the superhero sense; someone who’s always got your back and who you’d definitely want on your side in a scrap. For me, that would be Clementine from Telltale’s The Walking Dead series. Loyal to her friends, a good heart, and scourge of any half-decayed re-animated flesh monsters that dare to come anywhere near her. Yeah, me and Clem would get along famously.

Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon?

Easy one. Crash. Never played Spyro.

Pikachu or Eevee?

Yeesh. How to lose half your followers in one go, right? Ok…before I answer, I just want everyone to know that I’m not going by ‘cuteness’ or a similar metric; I’m going by what I deem to be more favourable personality traits and characteristics. Therefore…Pikachu. The yellow rodent is fiercely loyal to his trainer, and displays kindness, generosity, determination, courage, and selflessness in the Pokemon series. Eevee on the other hand merely adapts to whatever her trainer wants, which to me kinda feels like the definition of two-facedness. Well…three-facedness in Eevee’s case. Well…six-facedness. Well….wait, how many possible evolutions does Eevee have again?

Games based on films or films based on games?

It’s funny, in my last Nerdly Musing I actually sound off a little about my distaste towards film-based games! There are way more better game-based films than film-based games. This may be unpopular but…I actually really liked the Mortal Kombat films. Ditto the film adaptations of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Hitman, Max Payne…and to be honest, I can still watch DOOM to this day and be entertained. Wait, where are you going?? No don’t leave! I promise, I thought Street Fighter sucked! Come back!!!

Welp, hope you all enjoyed my answers! Now to think of some challenging questions for my nominees…

  1. You’re stuck on a desert island, and have to choose one video game character to help you survive. Who do you choose and why?
  2. What’s your favourite line/quote from a game?
  3. Mario has been fired from his job as a plumber. What job do you think Mario would be best-suited for?
  4. Your computer/console malfunctions and is about to bring the one video game villain/boss you fear the most into the real world. You cross your fingers and hope it’s not...
  5. Which video game character would be/is your favourite to cosplay as?
  6. If you could go back in time to tell a game developer one thing, which developer/studio would you choose and what would you tell them?
  7. Supersonic speed or the ability to fly?
  8. What’s the most number of times you’ve replayed a narrative-driven game?
  9. Which game would you most want to play in VR?
  10. Which upcoming new game are you buying the instant it gets released?
  11. You’re walking down a street when you come across a strange device lying on the floor…it’s Chell’s Portal Gun! Picking it up, what’s the first thing you decide to do with it?

  1. Clem would be a great person to help you out. I’d love to play Mass Effect for the first time again. I want to do a renegade play through which will probably be as close as I can get to playing it for the first time again. Thanks for answering these.

    1. I thought so too =)

I’ve tried more than once to do renegade playthroughs with Shephard, but I can only do it for a couple of hours until my mind revolts and I think “No, Shephard can’t be a dick! This isn’t natural!” and I give up…one day maybe…

      1. I haven’t done a renegade play through for that reason. I find it hard to be deliberately bad in games. I always try to go for the nice option as it comes naturally and I never want other characters to dislike me. Sometimes that goes wrong in the Mass Effect games when I interpret the prompt differently to how the response comes out but I then feel guilty. A renegade play could be tricky for me but I want to try (eventually…).
